Search underway for 19-year-old man missing in Truckee River near Floriston, California

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and search teams are looking for a 19-year-old man who went underwater and did not resurface while swimming in the Truckee River on Saturday afternoon.

The incident was reported at approximately 3:00 p.m. on March 21 near Floriston.

According to authorities, the man was visiting the river with friends and was from out of the area.

The search has been ongoing throughout the weekend by ground and by air, but the missing man has not yet been located.

On Monday, the operation will continue with the use of K9 teams, drones, helicopters, swift water rescue teams, rescue swimmers, and ground searchers on foot.

Agencies assisting the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office include the Truckee Police, Truckee Fire, CHP Air Ops, and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office stated the water temperature is approximately 44 degrees.

Officials noted the river is currently affected by snow melt runoff and heavy currents, making it unsafe for swimming.
