Stormy weather is expected to impact the region this weekend, beginning with showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms on Friday, according to a forecast and precipitation map from NWS Bay Area.

A rain band featuring embedded thunderstorms is projected to move through the area starting Saturday afternoon and continuing into Sunday.

Regional precipitation estimates show San Francisco is expected to receive between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain.

Higher totals are forecast for coastal and northern areas, with Santa Cruz, Big Sur, and Cloverdale projected to receive 1.5 to 2 inches of total storm precipitation.

Officials stated that the larger weather system will also bring gusty winds across the region.

According to NWS Bay Area, the atmospheric conditions include “showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms on Friday before a rain band with embedded thunderstorms comes through Saturday afternoon into Sunday.”

The department added that the gusty winds are expected to coincide with the arrival of the larger system.

In the South Bay, San Jose is projected to receive between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain, while interior locations like Livermore and King City are also forecast for the 0.5 to 1-inch range.

The weather event is expected to conclude following the passage of the rain band on Sunday.
